KAZAN, Mar 22 (PRIME) – Russian demand for MC-21 planes stands at 860, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov told reporters on Friday.
“The flagship project on which we all rely is the launch of MC-21 sales. In Russia alone, demand for the aircraft stands at about 860 planes. This is why it is very important for us to finish works on acquisition of a type certificate for the plane in a timely manner and to launch mass production,” he said.
The authorities have taken all the steps necessary to substitute imports of composite materials and to start production of Russian analogues of them, making it unnecessary for the producer to redesign wings of MC-21 after U.S. suppliers had refused to deliver the components, he said.
The government expects certification of MC-21 planes to be finished in 2020 and mass production launched in 2021, he added.
